I am very excited about our new school year! I am continuing the transition to a blended learning environment within the classroom. This model of teaching is very effective, but it is also very different than the traditional classroom. I will post some videos on this blog that may be helpful in understanding what "blended learning" is all about and how and why it is effective. But I will share with you the main purpose and focus of Blended Learning in a few brief sentences. The goal is to allow for the greatest possible individualization for learning and applying knowledge. Students gain great control over their learning as they choose how, when and where to learn; this allows them to utilize their own individual learning style and methods of learning. It also allows students to learn at a pace that best fits each student. I take on more the role of a coach helping each learner to learn the most efficient and effective way. This model also allows me to get to know each student much better and give much more one on one, or small group instruction. One of the major goals is that learners will discover new skills and knowledge that can be applied in a practical manner within their life.
Here are a couple short videos to help parents and students better understand the Blended Learning Model of teaching. I hope this helps you understand both what the blended learning model is and why I am using it in the classroom. If you want to know more I have posted about six additional videos on my Online Learning tab, of this website, that I will be using in class with the students to help them transition smoothly.
